Consider the Cost of Auto Repair

This is a common phrase used to compare one thing to another. Why is it when it comes to auto repair people refuse to use the same standard? Could it be they're trying to save money? What's going on in their heads? I'll bet it sounds something like this...

" It's only the family car, we don't need the best, after all, its not exactly a Rolls Royce, I only need to get back and forth to work." So they opt for the cheaper repair thinking they saved money. Then, the repair has to be done again because they opted to go with cheaper parts or a lesser quality job and the first thing that comes out of their mouth is... RIP-OFF!!! If this sounds like you allow me to talk some sense to you.

When considering a major repair on your automobile ask yourself these questions:

* Do I value the safety of my family as well as myself?

* Who is going to drive this car besides me?

* How many times would I like to do this job over?

* What will the cost be in down time and or rental?

* In pricing this job, am I comparing apples to apples or apples to oranges?

Obviously, you are concerned with your family's safety that was just a rhetorical question.
When pricing a major repair job consider these things:

* What is the quality of the parts being used, are they worthy of a good warranty or is it an "over the curb" warranty? In other words, covered until you leave the driveway of the shop.

* What options are available to you in terms of repairs?

* Is the shop trained and qualified to work on your sophisticated computer controlled automobile? Or are the personnel just guessing.

* What are the warranties?

* And as I said earlier, How many times do you want to do the job? Once of course.

In short, when you are quoted a price that's lower than the majority, ask yourself why is this so much lower? What am I sacrificing on the other end. You might find the additional cost is justified. Remember: "quality is not expensive, it is priceless!"
'Til next time... keep rollin'.
