Regular Season: Part One

Does anyone actually think that the Detroit Lions will finally fulfill Jon Kitna’s promise of winning ten games? My guess is no, but I guess the guy can say whatever he wants. Last season he said ten, and then they lost their last six games of the season. They cut their starting running back, and expect a rookie to start at the position. They rid themselves of their best defensive lineman during the offseason and will look to field a defense that doesn’t have much going for it.

Well, the Lions are looking for that ever important ten win season and who knows, they just might get it. Lets take a look at what the first part of their season brings their way.

Week One: at Atlanta Falcons: The somewhat new look Falcons will probably be in store for a rough season this time out and the Lions will pick up their first win in this game. They will get a good look at new quarterback Matt Ryan in this game, but the Lions will win here. This will be a good game for their rushing attack and hopefully sparks many more good rushing games to come.

Week Two: vs. Green Bay Packers: Will it be Brett Favre or will it be Aaron Rodgers under center? I don’t think it will matter since the Packers are still a superior team to the Lions. I don’t think it will be a blowout, but I don’t think that it will be close. The Lions will taste defeat here for the first time this season but will look to get back on track next week.

Week Three: at San Francisco 49ers: And they should do just that with this game with the 49ers. I do not see the 49ers being any kinds of force or threat in the NFC so the Lions should pick up a win here. Their running game will be tested against reigning defensive player of the year, Patrick Willis, and they might be able to put up good points through the air.

Week Four: vs. Chicago Bears: The Lions will win this game. The Lions will get a chance to see the man they released in back Kevin Jones and they should play somewhat inspired if he manages to touch the ball a lot. The Lions defense will have to be alert in order to keep the Bears under raps and keep their team in the lead, but the Bears win here.

The Lions might not get to the ten-win season that Kitna has been ranting about anytime soon, but they might come close. Their season rests on the shoulders of their running game.
