A lie of omission is still a lie By: Tan Williams |
| |
For the last few years I have watched as the quality of news in the United Sates has declined to the point of uselessness. But now it’s clear that the news has gone beyond uselessness to a medium and a platform for fraud.
It’s just like the old saying, “A lie of omission is still a lie.”
Of course I’m referring to the most recent evidence of fraud to be perpetrated by one of the major news networks, in which CBS anchor Katie Couric chose not to air John McCain’s most recent misstatement that the war in Iraq was the first major conflict since 9/11.
By itself it doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal, but nothing could further from the truth because ultimately, if they are choosing to withhold politically relevant information from the American people, what else are they choosing to withhold?
I’ll tell you what, no news networks are covering the effort by a handful of our representatives that are trying to discover the depth and extent to which the current administration has broke the law.
No news networks are reporting on the actual civilian casualties in Iraq which is now estimated to be around 1,000,000. There not reporting on the number of American soldiers that are coming home without arms and legs.
But it gets worse. Look at the coverage that the current oil/gas crisis is getting. The media is more than happy to report the rhetorical back and forth between political candidates but none of them are reporting to the actual causes of the crisis. And even worse, some media outlets are actually disseminating pro-big oil propaganda in effort to garner support for the actual; entities that have caused and continues to propagate the fleecing of America.
Here’s a little test for you to take to prove I’m right. Denis Kucinich brought articles of impeachment for Bush to the floor on Friday July 25, how much news coverage did that receive? Did it get any? Even if you don’t agree with his efforts you certainly agree that it is a news worthy event demanding at least some coverage by the news media.
Now you know why so many are choosing to shut off network and cable news and are seeking other news sources like what can be found on the internet. People are now aware that the media is not reporting the news but rather are omitting real news and at their worst, assisting in the dissemination of propaganda.
If you want more you’re going to have to demand it. Write the networks and let them know, until they start reporting the news again, you’re not going to watch. Next, write the network sponsors, who support the news with their advertisement dollars, and let them know that you will not purchase their products until they demand that the news programs they sponsor start acting in a responsible way by factually reporting what is going on. Your voice can make the difference, so let yourself be heard.
