Autism: A Real Problem

Autism: A Real ProblemRadio talk show host Michael Savage has been getting a lot of attention from remarks he made in which he claimed that autism was, in 99 percent of the cases, a fraud, and a brat that hasn’t been told to cut out the act. Not only is this opinion offensive but it doesn’t even come close to the reality of the situation.

Autism is a brain disorder that affects one out of 2,500 people in the United States. Autism is almost always diagnosed during early childhood right about the time when most children begin to speak.

Although children with autism do not physically appear different from other children, there is a marked difference in behavior from non-affected children. Autistic children can have a variety of behavioral differences including an inability to make connections with others, unpredictable behavior, long periods of inactivity to intense bursts of hyperactivity.

Because the cause of autism is unknown, it is difficult to treat, but if you have a child, or a loved one with autism, consider the following to help improve conditions.

Calcium and Magnesium & Vitamin B Complex: should be considered for use everyday to help with normal brain and nervous system functioning.

Multivitamin: is essential for everyone, but specifically those with autism to help make sure a steady and constant supply of needed vitamins and minerals.

Ginkgo Biloba: is known as the memory herb, but in essence is a powerful free radical destroyer that works to protect the brain. Ginkgo Biloba also greatly increases oxygen circulation to the brain.

Perhaps the most important part of dealing with autism is becoming involved with support groups that can help you through the most difficult of times by offering advice, and help for both the autistic family member and those who care for them.

Organizations like The Answer Inc. based out of Chicago, offer not only immediate relief services but also a 24 hour emergency hotline which is open to people all over the country to call with questions or when they just need to speak to someone who understands what they are going through. The Answer inc. hotline numbers is 708-296-5651, but remember, The Answer Inc. and organizations like them are run by volunteers with support from the public. If you can make a donation, please do. Your support not only ensures that they’ll be there for you but that they’ll be there in the future for others who need their help and support.
