The Big Crunch is Coming. Are You Ready?

The Big Crunch is ComingThe economic situation in the country right now is not good. Perhaps even worse is what’s yet to come. There are a lot of rumors going around right now that suggest the future looks even worse.

Take for example the secret session of Congress that just took place in March of this year. It was believed that the session was being held to discuss President Bush’s Secret Spying Program, but over time, some really shocking rumors about that session point directly to a US economy melt down.

So what is the rumor floating around? The underground word is that the session was actually on the state of the economy and that it is in fact much, much worse than everyone has been lead to believe. The session itself wasn’t a brainstorming session to try and figure out what to do, but rather to prepare the members of Congress for the chaos that is about to take place and to insure the members that they will be protected when the American people take to the streets looking to put the heads of officials on pikes.

I pass this rumor on, and it is a rumor, not to alarm anyone but to use it to emphasis how bad the economy really is and how time is running out to make substantive steps to protect ourselves from a major crash.

Here are some things to consider doing now to protect yourself:

Pay off any existing debt. If you have credit card debt, pay it off. If you own bought something on one of those pay nothing for the first year deals, pay it off. You don’t want lingering debt, particularly right now.

Put off major purchases. Thinking about a new granite countertop for the kitchen, or perhaps you’ve been considering getting a hot tub? It’s probably not the best time to be spending money on things that are not absolutely necessary. Take that money and put it away for a while. If the economy starts to turn around than go make your purchases, if it doesn’t you’ll have some much needed extra cash to get you through.

Do more with less. Here it’s all about personal consumption. Start to be aware of how much you are using of everything and find places where you can conserve. Do what you can to cut your energy consumption and try to integrate alternative ways of heating and powering your home.

Every dollar you don’t spend is another dollar you’ll have to get through what could be the biggest economic crisis the country has ever faced.

It’s time to take a page from our grandparents and great grandparents who lived through the Great Depression. “Prepare for the worst, and be pleasantly surprised if it doesn’t come.”
