Republicans: You can have Lieberman (If you want him?)

Republicans: You can have LiebermanIt’s not news to say that Joe Lieberman is John McCain’s lap dog. The 2000 Democratic vice Presidential candidate has really done some twisting in the last eight years. Now, divorced from his party, he has been finding consolation among the open arms of Republicans. The question is why would Republicans want him?

The only thing Lieberman has in common with Washington Republicans is a love and devotion to the current War in Iraq. On every other issue there is no common ground, yet Republicans are holding up Lieberman like he’s the greatest thing since bunker busting bombs.

So if you like Joe Lieberman’s lust for the war in Iraq, you’re going to love his position on Iran.

It now appears that Lieberman and vice President Cheney are busy creating a case to start bombing Iran, regardless of the fact that war with Iran has nothing to do with the security of the United States.

Lieberman is out on the media circuit selling the idea of war with Iran, begging the question; who buys it? Do Republican rank and file really believe war with Iran is necessary or even warranted? Lieberman is justifying his position by pointing to evidence that weapons from Iran are making there way into Iraq where they are being used to kill Americans, and that is true, but it is also true that weapons manufactured in the United States are making their way to Iraq and are being used to kill Americans. Should we bomb ourselves?

According to Lieberman’s logic we should.

Lieberman is now a single issue politician and his single issue is war. The idea of an unending war in the Middle East is making him giddy, and Washington Republicans are loving it, because it creates a bipartisan consensus where no consensus actually exists.

This is the last hooray for Lieberman. There is no chance of him being reelected. So he has nothing to lose. The question is; what does he have to gain? Why is he so hot for a war with Iran?

War with Iran doesn’t seem to be in anyone’s interest, not even Israel’s, so why does he want it so badly? Honestly, I don’t know why. Even if war with Iran were in Israel’s interest, how is it in the interest of the US?

One thing is for sure, Lieberman is of a mentality that is quickly becoming extinct. So Republicans, as you are told by your leadership to embrace Joe Lieberman, ask yourself what you get with Lieberman, and remember, Democrats don’t want him, so if you want, he’s all yours, enjoy.
