SoulTracks: Readers’ Choice Awards

SoulTracks: Readers’ Choice AwardsAmerica’s most popular soul music website, SoulTracks, proudly presents the annual Readers’ Choice Awards — the largest international awards dedicated to independent soul music — on Friday, Oct. 3. Tickets are on sale today at the Max M. Fisher Music Center and online at www.soultracks.com.

The ceremony and show will be held at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit and will feature 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients “The Dramatics.” The awards show will kick-off Detroit’s Soul Music weekend that will include an All-Star Detroit Tribute Concert on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Museum of African American History.

“Last year the international response to our Readers’ Choice Awards was overwhelming, as many top artists from around the country came to Detroit and wowed our audience with performance after performance,” said Chris Rizik, SoulTracks publisher. “We were also overwhelmed by the attention we received around the world, including a feature article in Billboard Magazine and a special segment on the nationally syndicated Michael Baisden radio show. This year’s show is well on its way to being even bigger and better.”

This year SoulTracks has teamed with Detroit’s Cornerstone Schools, one of the most innovative and successful urban schools in America. One hundred percent of the profits from the soul music weekend will support youth music education programs at Cornerstone.

The award show, presented in cooperation with Detroit’s Mosaicthump (www.mosaicthump.com) and Atlanta’s Jodine’s Corner (www.jodinescorner.com), is expected to attract the best of Detroit’s music scene, as well as soul music performers and record company executives from around the world.

Some of the local organizations sponsoring this special weekend include the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, Plante & Moran, Franco Public Relations Group and Foley & Lardner.

“The City of Detroit has a long and storied musical history, which is why it’s critical we work to develop initiatives to build on both this history and the incredible talent of our community,” said George Jackson, president and CEO of Detroit Economic Growth Corporation. “In light of this, we’re thrilled SoulTracks has chosen Detroit as the host city for this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards. It will be a fantastic event and will show why we’re so proud of Detroit’s vibrant music scene.”

In preparation for the 2008 awards ceremony, SoulTracks readers will vote online from Aug. 13-25 for the top performers and performances of the past year, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and top Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Duo or Group and Best New Artist. In addition, SoulTracks will be presenting its 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award winner to the legendary soul group, The Dramatics.
